Aim of the course

This course has been designed as an introductory level course that has been specifically developed to support those who have recently been appointed to the role of supervisor, or those that are already performing the role but have not received formal training. The session aims to equip delegates with a thorough understanding of their role and responsibilities and the foundation of key skills on which to grow their supervisory skills.

This fully comprehensive course explores all areas of first line supervising including:

  • Building and managing an effective team
  • Identifying bullying in your team
  • Motivators and demotivators
  • The confidence to lead
  • Prioritising and delegating
  • Performance reviews
  • Critical communication skills
  • The basics of managing discipline and handling grievances
  • Action planning 
  • Utilising case studies, forum theatre, tutor interaction and group discussion, this highly interactive session provides a safe, positive learning environment within which delegates can try new techniques and new ideas.
