The National Employment and Workplace Mediation Certificate is Globis' flagship course and runs in two units over five days, broken down into a block of three days and a block of two days. It provides delegates with the skills needed to become an accredited workplace mediator.
Employment mediation refers to post termination disputes and workplace mediation refers to disputes where there is an ongoing employment relationship. Many mediation providers only train in workplace mediation skills - our course will equip you to mediate both employment and workplace disputes.
The accompanying course handbook Workplace Mediation Skills is provided free to all delegates, helping you to prepare for the course and further develop your skills as a workplace mediator.
Aim of the course
The course takes an in-depth look at the concept of mediation, its background, and its likely future as an alternative dispute resolution tool within the workplace. Delegates will learn both the theory and practice of workplace mediation. Delegates can register to do both units together or separately. Both units must be fully completed to receive full accreditation.

Globis Mediation Group has developed an impressive track record for delivering high quality mediation training which has led to recognition and national accreditation. Globis Mediation Group mediation training is accredited by the Bar Standards Board and OCN London.
The accreditation criteria for this course is in two parts - practical and theory. Firstly, days four and five are assessed days. Each course participant needs to demonstrate their ability to mediate a dispute by using the skills learned on days one to three. There are at least three hours of observed assessment per delegate. A faculty member observes each session and provides 1:1 feedback to each delegate.
The second part of the accreditation criteria consists of written assignments. Delegates are required to submit a comprehensive portfolio in response to set questions that cover a range of concepts covered in the course. Areas covered include conflict theory in mediation, transformative mediation, people skills in the mediation process and facilitating mediation. Delegates have 14 days from the end of the fifth day of the course to complete the written assignments.
Accreditation - Quality Standards
Globis Mediation Group knows, due to feedback received from previous delegates, that this course is challenging and demanding. Course participants who demonstrate the required level of competence through the observed case studies and written assignments will be awarded the National Certificate. The Foundation in Workplace Mediation Skills Certificate is awarded to recognise attendance and participation for course delegates who do not achieve accreditation. It is possible to be re-assessed at a later stage in cases where accreditation is not achieved first time round.
Globis Mediation Group has developed the LAETR™ model which is used during workplace mediation training courses to help delegates understand the process for helping to resolve differences in the workplace. This model has been used in many workplace mediations with notable success.
Listen: Listening within another person's frame of reference to fully understand the issues that have led to the dispute
Ask: Ask appropriate and relevant questions to help clarify your understanding of the background to the dispute
Explore: Explore options for resolution to help the parties focus on the future rather than the past
Test: Test and check any potential solutions have been thought through and are workable for the parties
Resolve: Resolve the dispute by summarising the parties' positions and bringing the mediation to an appropriate close
Course participants are required to undertake around 6 hours of pre-reading before coming on the course. This is for the course handbook and case study materials. It is important to attend the course with an understanding of the mediation course prior to day one. It is also important that delegates have a good command of the English language as this will be required for both the practical and written assessments.
