CIPD Conference 2009

Last week’s note about personal planning was of interest to many people. Some have asked whether I would be willing to run a development workshop on the topic. Well, if at least 12 people express an interest for an open course and a similar number for an in-house course, then yes. If there is a fit, just let me know. My MBA dissertation was on career management. It’s a topic I have a passion for.

 CIPD Conference 2009

It’s a very short note this week. We are busy getting ready to attend the national CIPD conference in Manchester. I have been asked to chair the session on Mediation in the workplace. You might previously recall me making reference to one of the organisations we work with, East Sussex County Council. We trained a number of people in mediation skills at East Sussex. Delegates included representatives from the line management population, in-house legal, HR and Trade Unions.

The Council, ably led by Asst Director of Personnel and Training – Leatham Green, made productivity savings of £500,000 in one year of implementing an in-house mediation scheme. They are on the CIPD 2009 awards short list for the scheme and will be the case study organisation at the CIPD mediation presentation. If you are attending the conference, please join us for the session. It takes place on Tuesday at 14.45 – 15.30. You will also find us at stand 106.

Finally, if you are one of the people that I sent the personal planning template to, I hope you have found it of value. If you didn’t request a template, but would like one, just shout.

By the way, in my newsletter last week I forgot to mention a funny experience I had encountered. On 5 November I was scheduled to mediate a dispute that was being held at a County Court. When I arrived, the security guard assumed I had committed a crime and asked if I knew where to go for my Hearing.  It must have been my attire…..
