Managing Health & Well Being – The Boorman Review
The Boorman Review was an independent review on NHS Health and Well-being as part of the Government’s review on the health of the UK’s working age population.
The Review found that on average:
- NHS staff take 10.7 sick days per year
- 9.7 sick days are taken on average across the public sector as a whole
- 6.4 sick days are taken on average for the private sector
- The cost associated to the absences is in the region of £1.7bn per year
This session will focus on the key aspects of learning from the Review, the business case for health and well being at work and and what the learning could mean for your organisation.
Speaker Profile – Dr. Steve Boorman
Steve is Director of Corporate Responsibility, and Chief Medical Adviser to Royal Mail Group NHS Workforce Health & well-being lead reviewer.
He was appointed to lead the review of NHS workforce health and wellbeing in January 2009; this independent review published interim findings in August and The Final Report was published on 23 November 2009.
He is an experienced consultant in occupational health. He manages a small team of specialists whose, remit includes developing policy and approaches across areas of health, safety and environment within one of the UK’s largest businesses, Royal Mail.
