The Equality Act 2010 - What does it mean for your organisation?
In October 2010, the Equality Act is scheduled to become law in the UK. It’s the biggest single biggest piece of employment legislation that the UK will face this year. The Act is designed to ensure that everybody is adequately protected against discrimination.
The Equality Act 2010 brings together 9 substantial equality laws and approximately 100 smaller laws to make it a lot easier for employers and other people to know what they must do in order to achieve equality. But;
• Will the Act introduce more problems than it solves?
• Will the Act protect people from being discriminated against under gender, ethnicity, disability, religion/belief, age, sexuality, and tran-sexuality?
• Will the Act lead to a more equal and stronger workforce?
• Is it all necessary?
The Equalities Office is estimating that its implementation is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £310million, mainly as a result of extra tribunal and court cases.
This session will focus on how important equality is, understanding the changes the Act will make and the practical steps that organisations can take to ensure that they are compliant.
